Never the type to hide their enthusiasm, Liverpool fans have allowed themselves to get excited after links emerged suggesting the Reds are ‘working on’ a deal for Lille defender Sven Botman.
Duncan Castles has sparked the furore after he claimed the Premier League champions had earmarked the 20-year-old Dutchman as the potential solution to the ongoing defensive dilemma at Anfield.
Furthermore, owing to the financial worries in France, Botman’s current employers are believed to be willing to part ways with their ever-present centre-half, despite only signing him in the summer from Ajax.
There had been concern amongst Kopites that the club would be at their frugal worst in January, despite the obvious need for reinforcements with all three senior centre-backs currently sidelined.
Known for their coy transfer negotiations in the past, experienced Jurgen Klopp transfer followers know better than to listen to the noises coming out of the club at times.
It remains to be seen whether or not any deal will come to fruition, let alone for Botman, who has been praised by Virgil van Dijk’s former Southampton teammate Jose Fonte.
