Liverpool to hand Roberto Firmino a new deal

Roberto Firmino has become a real fan favourite at Anfield since his £29m move from Hoffenheim in July 2015 and Liverpool are looking to tie him down to a new contract, say the Liverpool Echo.

The Brazilian’s contract runs out at the end of the 2019/20 season and having cemented himself as the club’s number nine and top centre-forward, it’s clear he features prominently in Jurgen Klopp’s future plans.

With 27 goals and 25 assists in his 101 Liverpool appearances, Firmino has attracted interest from other clubs but the Reds are looking to tie the 26-year-old down for the long-term.

In 11 appearances so far this season, Firminom who has established a strong chemistry with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the Liverpool forward line, has netted four goals and provided three assists.

Given that Daniel Sturridge doesn’t seem to feature in the club’s plans going forward, Dominic Solanke’s inexperience and the question mark that is Danny Ings, it’s a smart move from Liverpool to move on Firmino’s contract situation.
