Liverpool haven’t opened talks with Sven Botman, claims journalist

Liverpool are yet to open talks with Sven Botman over a January move, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Reds currently have a shortage of centre-back options, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all out injured.

Botman is someone who has been linked with making a switch to Anfield this month, alleviating Liverpool’s issues in that area.

Romano has played down those reports, however, claiming there is ‘nothing advanced at the moment’, regarding a potential transfer for the 20-year-old Lille man.

It is going to be an interesting month at Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp potentially taking a huge risk, should he decide not to sign a centre-back.

With Van Dijk and Gomez not likely to appear again this season, and Matip injury-prone, having to rely on Fabinho, Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips could be detrimental to the Reds’ chances of winning the Premier League and Champions League.

There is one thing being frugal in the transfer market and having faith in your squad, but choosing not to make an addition could backfire.

More may become clearer as January progresses, but for now, it looks as though Botman won’t be heading to Merseyside.
