Liverpool will not pursue any other central defensive target aside from Virgil van Dijk this summer, according to Paul Joyce of the Times.
The Reds’ interest in the Netherlands international has been well documented over the last couple of months and despite issuing a public statement to insist that they had withdrew their interest, they still appear to be keen.
Van Dijk is adamant that Liverpool is his next destination but it looks as though Southampton are doing everything in their power to keep hold of their team captain for at least another season.
The 26-year-old has been superb since his move from Celtic in 2015 and has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best central defenders.
With Joyce claiming that Van Dijk is Liverpool’s sole target for centre-back, it looks as though the Reds are confident of landing the Dutchman, given that they have no other alternative lined up.
