Liverpool set to miss out on Douglas Costa

Liverpool are in the market for a pacey, direct winger that can help ease the load on Sadio Mane’s shoulders next season.

The Reds were clearly not the same team when Mane was out of the line-up and Jurgen Klopp is interested in bringing in a similar player who can make Liverpool a more dynamic attacking threat.

A player he was targeting was wantaway Bayern Munich forward Douglas Costa. The Bundesliga champions are said to be open to allowing him to leave the club and Liverpool were among those keen.

However, the Daily Mail note that Serie A champions Juventus are closing in on completing a deal to sign him.

Juventus are to meet with Bayern officials in the near future to finalise the deal, which will roughly cost the Italians £26m.

Since making a £25.5m move to the club from Shakhtar Donetsk in July 2015, Costa has scored 14 goals and provided 27 assists in 77 games for the Bundesliga club.

Tottenham, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been linked with the 26-year-old Brazilian attacker at some point this window also but it appears they, along with the Reds, will not be signing Costa.
