Liverpool appeared to be in the driving seat to land Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk this summer, but it looks as though their hopes of signing him could take a blow after the restructure of their offer.
Chris Williams states in a report for This is Anfield that Liverpool had initially offered Van Dijk a wage worth £180,000 per week, almost triple what he earns at Southampton, but are now looking to lower the initial wage in the deal.

It’s stated that they are keen to offer the Netherlands international £130,000 per week at the club, but one that will rise to £180,000 based on add-ons.
This has reportedly frustrated Van Dijk’s team of representatives, who appeared to be keen on accepting the initial deal for their client, and they have reminded the Reds that they are not the only team that hold a keen interest in signing the 25-year-old this summer.
Liverpool are still Van Dijk’s apparent preferred destination, but they will now be hoping that their late change of wage offer will not hinder any potential deal.
