Loris Karius will fly to Istanbul tomorrow to complete a medical ahead of his loan move to Besiktas.
As reported by James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, the Reds and Besiktas agreed a deal on Monday to send the German to Turkey on an initial two-year-loan with a view to a permanent deal in the future.
However, This week is the ‘Feast of Sacrifice’ which is a four-day public holiday in Turkey and as such, Karius has not been able to fly out until now.
With the former Mainz star’s confidence still understood to be critically low following his two mistakes against Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League final, it makes sense for him to make a fresh start elsewhere after Liverpool replaced him as the club’s starter with Alisson, who arrived from AS Roma in the summer.
Karius was expected to be Liverpool’s back up to the Brazilian this season but it looks like he’ll now be heading to Turkey.
Besiktas, who offloaded Fabri to Fulham earlier on in the summer, are chasing the signing of a goalkeeper this summer and have evidently identified Karius as an option on loan, with a view to a potential permanent move.
