Manchester City will join Liverpool in the race to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk during the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.
The report states that Manchester City want to add to their backline with John Stones now likely to miss up to six weeks of football.
Liverpool were linked with a move for the player throughout the summer and were even accused of making an illegal approach to sign the Dutchman.

The Reds were unable to complete a deal but are expected to return to Southampton when the window re-opens in the new year, but now face competition from City for the player’s signature.
Pep Guardiola acknowledged that City may need to dip into the market in January after their win over Leicester City this weekend.
The centre-back position has been something of a problem position for Jurgen Klopp’s men this season, so signing a defender is likely to be high on the club’s priority list.
Van Dijk was at the heart of the Southampton defence that conceded three times at Anfield on Saturday.
