Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is set to miss the Premier League opener against Norwich after Senegal progressed through to the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations.
Senegal beat Benin 1-0 on Wednesday to make it through to the last four, with Everton’s Idrissa Gana Gueye scoring the only goal of the game.
Mane is, of course, part of the squad, and is now due to miss pre-season for Liverpool – ruling him out of the first game of the 2019/20 campaign.
The Reds are set to host Premier League new boys Norwich on the opening day, as they look to pip Manchester City to the title next season.
Norwich won the Championship last term, racking up 94 points in the second division, but Jurgen Klopp’s side will go into the game as heavy favourites.
Regardless, losing Mane for the start of the season will be a huge loss to Liverpool, after his sensational year at Anfield.
