Mark Lawrenson tips Liverpool for comfortable EPL victory

Liverpool have been flexing their not insignificant muscles already this season and will be hoping to do the same when Newcastle United arrive at Anfield.

The Reds have been nigh on imperious since the most recent international break and Jurgen Klopp’s side look ready to fight all the way for Premier League glory.

Free-scoring and at times almost impossible to contain, Mohamed Salah is currently on a mission to reach never before seen heights.

Ahead of the match, former Kop favourite Mark Lawrenson predicted a comfortable Liverpool victory in his BBC Sport column.

When you consider Liverpool’s attacking power and think about Newcastle’s weakness at the back, then there is only going to be one outcome, really. We saw again in their heavy defeat against Leicester what a big job Magpies manager Eddie Howe has has on his hands to keep them up, and I can’t see them getting a result here that will help them out much there.

Lawrenson tipped the hosts to prevail 3-0 and in doing so, close the gap at the top of the table back to one point.

Klopp looks set to welcome back Roberto Firmino into the matchday squad, whilst Divock Origi remains sidelined with a slight knee issue.

Whilst no game at this level can be classified as easy, the formbook would have you believe there is a distant favourite in his contest.

However, Klopp will no doubt have his charges fully tuned to the job in hand and looking to capitalise on their moment.

Having filled in as a false nine against Aston Villa, the return to fitness of Diogo Jota and Firmino may see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain revert to a more familiar midfield role.
