Simon Mignolet has seen his luck go from bad to worse after being forced to withdraw from the Belgium squad.
Liverpool have confirmed that the goalkeeper will not be featuring against Scotland or Iceland for his country and is now expected to return to the club.
The Reds say they expect the player to be fit enough to fight for a spot in the squad to face Tottenham when the Premier League returns.
The news comes as a fresh blow to Mignolet, who has endured a mixed start to the season.
He came in for criticism from manager Jurgen Klopp when he voiced his confusion over the deal that saw Loris Karius leave the club this summer.
Mignolet himself had been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield, but Karius’ exit seemingly blocked any potential deals, with the Belgian international needed to provide back-up to summer signing Alisson.
