Nathaniel Phillips set to start Liverpool’s clash with Leicester

Nathaniel Phillips is set to start for Liverpool against Leicester City this weekend, according to the Daily Mail.

The Reds host the Premier League leaders on Sunday night, as Brendan Rodgers looks to pick up a win on his return to Anfield.

The injuries are racking up for Liverpool, giving Jurgen Klopp a selection headache ahead of the game.

It is not yet known whether or not Fabinho will be fit to partner Joel Matip at centre-back, but this latest report claims Phillips will start.

The 23-year-old impressed in the recent win over West Ham and he will reportedly be preferred to fellow youngster Rhys Williams at the back.

This suggests Fabinho will again be ruled out, which acts a major blow ahead of a tough match.

With all due to respect to Phillips, who was dominant against West Ham, Leicester could be another level up from that, with the pace of Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes causing problems.

The Hammers were an ideal opponent for Phillips, hitting the ball long and allowing him to show off his aerial prowess – he won five aerial duels in that game – but Rodgers adopts a very different playing style, with attackers running in behind on the counter-attack.

For that reason, I think the more pacey Williams would be a better option, should Fabinho be out.
