Liverpool Football Club have released a statement confirming that they have ended their interest in signing Southampton centre back Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds were accused of making an illegal approach to sign the Dutchman and they will now no longer pursue his services.
Van Dijk had agreed a move to Liverpool and was seemingly poised to complete a summer switch, however details emerged that Saints had given no permission, therefore meaning that the Reds had breached the terms and conditions set within the Dutchman’s contract.

Saints were understandably angered by this and have responded by issuing a hands-off warning to all potential suitors, determined to make a stand and keep hold of Van Dijk for at least the coming season.
It’s a big boost for Saints and their supporters, who have been showing how much they want to keep hold of their key player and team captain.
Liverpool will now have to look elsewhere.
