Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has hailed his teammate Virgil Van Dijk as the best central defender in the world.
Robertson says that Van Dijk should also be the frontrunner for the PFA Player of the Season award in the Premier League, for his superb performances this season for Liverpool.
Van Dijk has played every minute of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign this season, scoring three goals from centre-back.
The Dutch defender struck twice against Watford as Liverpool ran out 5-0 winners at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Speaking to Liverpool’s website, Robertson said this:
If the season ended tonight, I would give him it personally (PFA award).
He’s so consistent as well. If he puts the performances as he has done, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t have that trophy. There’s still 10 games to go and somebody can step up from another team but Virgil can take it to a whole new level, I reckon.
Robertson believes that Van Dijk is the best centre-back in the world, above the likes of Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Samuel Umtiti and Giorgio Chiellini.
For me, he’s the best centre-back just now in the world. That’s the way he’s playing and the confidence he’s got – and he’s still young enough that he can get even better.
