Sheffield United starlet David Brooks wanted by Liverpool

Liverpool have made a habit of plucking some of the best talents from England’s lower reaches in recent seasons and another highly-rated prospect has emerged on their radar.

As the Liverpool Echo note, the Reds are interested in signing Sheffield United’s talented 20-year-old attacker David Brooks after the youngster has enjoyed a great start to the season.

Brooks made his first-team debut for the Blades last season in the Checkatrade Trophy but had to wait until the start of this season to make his first league start and he’s fully grasped the opportunity handed to him.

After impressing off the bench in the early weeks, Brooks has started three of United’s last four Championship game, including away at city rivals Sheffield Wednesday where he stole the show in a 4-2 win.

Chris Coleman has handed the attacker his first call-up to the Wales senior squad following some impressive outings for Sheffield United which have alerted some of the Premier League’s top clubs, including Liverpool.

Brooks came through the Manchester City academy but left their U18 squad in 2014 to join Sheffield United where he’s developed into a key first-team player at such a young age.

The versatile attacker can play in an attacking midfield role, on either wing or in a supporting secondary striker position.

The likes of Joe Gomez, Jordon Ibe and Sheyi Ojo are three standout names that Liverpool have brought in from lower league sides and Brooks could be the next one. Everton have also been linked with a move for the 20-year-old.
