Solanke delighted with England call-up

Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke has spoken of his delight following his first ever senior England call-up.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, the young forward admitted that he was surprised when he discovered he’d be joining up with the national squad ahead of their friendly against Brazil on Tuesday night.

It came as a surprise, really, but anything can happen as a footballer. Football can change quickly so if you get an opportunity, you have to take it. Football is all about confidence and belief, and if you believe in yourself and you get an opportunity than all you can do is take it.

Solanke is currently an England Under-21 international but is yet to make his bow on the senior stage. He’s hoping to feature when Gareth Southgate’s men welcome their South American counterparts at Wembley in midweek.

The Chelsea academy graduate was recruited by the Reds in the summer following his decision to move on from Stamford Bridge in the search for regular game time.

It’s crazy, really. It’s every boy’s dream and to play at Wembley against a great nation like Brazil, so it will mean a lot.

I think there is a lot of great talents in English football. We do well in quite a lot of the youth tournaments, so I think everyone has just got to stay grounded and keep working their way up to the top and just go as far as they can, really.

Solanke has, however, made just one start at senior level. This came in Liverpool’s underwhelming 2-0 defeat against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup earlier on in the season.

The 20-year-old will now look to impress should he get the chance to compete against Tite’s Brazil side, before returning to Liverpool ahead of their game against Southampton this weekend.

It is crazy. You know they have world-class players like Neymar. To play against them would be amazing, really. You always watch them and think how good they are, so it will be amazing.
