You can condemn it, but come on, if you can earn five times as much at a top English club then I understand that.

The Dutch international looked set to move to Stamford Bridge during the earlier stages of the summer, but as the window developed, he edged closer to a move to Liverpool after making his desire to play for Jurgen Klopp known.

Southampton made their anger about Liverpool’s transfer tactics public which has put a move to Anfield in doubt.

Chelsea believe that Southampton may be more willing to sell to the Premier League champions this summer.

The Saints are believed to be desperate not to sell another player to Liverpool, who have signed Nathaniel Clyne, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Sadio Mane in recent seasons.
