Liverpool will likely have an action packed summer transfer window ahead of them.

Veteran midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is set to leave the club at the end of the season, leaving a big void.

Plenty of players have been mooted as a possible replacement with some incredible talent mentioned.

The likes of Houssem Aouar and Florian Neuhaus have all been mentioned as heirs to Wijnaldum’s spot.

However, former Red Paul Stewart spoke exclusively to Football FanCast, highlighting his perfect replacement.

Stewart thinks Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse could definitely fit in to Liverpool’s set up.

The link initially came from BBC pundit Garth Crooks, with Stewart agreeing that the young Englishman would suit the Reds.

“I think they are two different types of players, but I like Ward-Prowse and I’ve seen his stats that show he covers the second most amount of ground during games, only behind Soucek.

“If you combine that with the ability to put a ball on a sixpence then it makes him a highly sought–after player. So, yeah, I could definitely see him there.”

Ward-Prowse has been at Southampton since he was a youngster, joining the academy in 2003.

The 26-year-old currently has a market value of £25.2million according to Transfermarkt.

A deal for the midfielder wouldn’t come cheap given his experience in the Premier League and his nationality.

The club captain has proven time again that he is a talented player and his loyalty to Southampton is unparalleled.

If the Reds were to try and tempt him away from his boyhood club they will need to offer a generous contract to turn his head.

Although, it would be hard for most players to turn down working under Jurgen Klopp.
