Liverpool fans were spotted leaving the Etihad during the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup Quarter Final. Many fans did not wait for the full-time whistle and left the stadium after the fourth goal.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 39th minute, before making to 2-0 in the stoppage time of the first half. Arne Slot’s side needed to come out all guns blazing in the second half, but Antoine Semenyo ended all hopes by scoring just five minutes after the restart to make it three.

Some fans were seen exiting after Semenyo scored the third goal in the 50th minute. Things got worse very quickly for the Merseyside club as Haaland completed his hat-trick before the hour mark.

Liverpool fans bring out Xabi Alonso chants

“Woah, woah, woah, We’ve got the best midfield in the world, Xabi Alonso, no Momo Sissoko , Gerrard and Mascherano…”

The Reds faithful were also heard singing the Xabi Alonso chant on their way out, amid reports in the media that the former midfielder is keen on becoming the Arne Slot replacement.

More fans were seen walking down the stairs at the Etihad, with a clear rumble about Slot. The Dutchman has just over a year left on his deal, but the club has yet to decide on his future.

Some fans stayed for the entire game but were far from happy with the performance. They showed their frustration by not applauding the players at the end of the game, leaving Dominik Szoboszlai puzzled.

The Hungarian was seen urging the fans to clap the player after the 4-0 before turning away.

Liverpool face PSG next week in the UEFA Champions League. They travel to Paris for the first leg at the Parc des Princes.

Arne Slot left dejected with Liverpool performance

Arne Slot took aim at his Liverpool players after the 4-0 loss to Manchester City, saying that the only good thing from the game was not conceding more goals. He added that they played well for the first 35 minutes, but everything fell apart from the penalty, and said:

“I liked our first 35 minutes but afterwards we have to defend so so much better than we did today. It’s been very disappointing, not only to be out but also the manner. Another big disappointment from us. It’s very disappointing to be out [of the FA Cup], not only in the manner but also the result and the score. Another big disappointment for us.”

The head coach admitted that the attack has been the main issue this season, saying that failure to convert chances has led to the subpar season.

“What has been missing for large parts of the season, converting our chances into goals. I think it was an even game up until they scored the penalty and the last time we played here we conceded just before half-time and again today. We get a penalty and we get a chance but that doesn’t tell me anything. The first 35 minutes was the sort of team I would like to see but the 20 minutes after that, we have to defend so, so much better than we were doing today.

“Not nice to go in at 2-0 just before half-time, not helpful for your mood especially after the season we have had. That was really hard to take. The only good thing was that we didn’t concede more.”

Slot was unwilling to focus on the first-half misses of Salah and the penalty, saying that they failed as a whole today.
