The defender was down for several minutes before it became apparent that a stretcher would be needed.

This will come as a massive blow to Liverpool with the busy Christmas schedule now beginning.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is likely to offer an update on Gomez’s condition shortly after the match.

Gomez has been in superb form for Liverpool so far this season, excelling at centre-back and right-back for Klopp.
