Liverpool choose ‘not to pursue’ Ozan Kabak deal

Liverpool are unlikely to try and sign Schalke 04 defender Ozan Kabak this month, according to a report from The Athletic.

The report stated that the Reds began monitoring the Turkish international after the long-term injuries suffered to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez earlier in the season. Those early scouting missions resulted in contact being made with the representatives of the player.

However, it is believed those discussions will be as far as any potential deal goes as the Premier League champions decide ‘not to pursue’ the six-cap Turkey international. The Bundesliga side now ‘expect him to go elsewhere’, with AC Milan in the mix to land the 20-year-old.

Liverpool’s defensive crisis has shown little signs of easing with Joel Matip’s most recent setback. The current inactivity in the transfer window will be of great cause for concern for those of a Red persuasion as the season heads progresses.

With early discussions not bearing fruit for Kabak and interest elsewhere being snubbed, the reality of Liverpool not signing a centre-back in this window is becoming increasingly likely as potential options are ruled out with each passing day.

Whilst Kabak may not have been the ideal solution, especially given Schalke’s dismal defensive record this term, the majority of Kopites would probably take almost anyone if it meant Jordan Henderson could return to midfield.

Perhaps its time to see what Steven Caulker is up to these days?
