“Not exactly Alonso” – Robertson makes brilliant dig at Oxlade-Chamberlain

Andy Robertson has had a brilliant dig at Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, claiming he’s “not exactly Xabi Alonso” in training.

The Scot is seen as one of the jokers in Liverpool’s dressing room, never too far away from pranks and humorous videos.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has mocked Robertson’s ability in a rondo exercise in training, but the left-back was quick to bite back.

In quotes provided by the Liverpool Echo, Robertson said his colleague was no Xabi Alonso himself, alluding to the Spanish icon’s quality during his time at Anfield:

Ox has it in for me. To be honest, yesterday was probably my best performance in a rondo that I’ve ever done.

I walked off there thinking I was the main man, but unfortunately I don’t get that feeling a lot! I’m usually running about in the middle like a headless chicken.

I’m not the best at them, I’ll give him that, but he’s not exactly Xabi Alonso at them either, to be fair!

It is typical Robertson behaviour and part of what makes him such an important member of the squad.

Not only is he a world-class full-back, but he has an infectious personality that rubs off on his teammates.

It is good to see Robertson in positive spirits despite Liverpool’s woes, at a time when Jurgen Klopp needs his players to be in a strong mindset.

The Scotland captain hasn’t registered an assist since the 7-0 win at Crystal Palace on December 19th, however, highlighting his drop-off in form.
