Rafa Benitez still dreams of being Liverpool manager again one day, according to renowned Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.

Benitez enjoyed six memorable years at Anfield between 2004 and 2010, famously winning the Champions League in 2005.

The Spaniard made Liverpool one of Europe’s best teams, also coming close to winning the Premier League in 2008/09.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Balague claimed Benitez still believes there is another chapter to be written in his Anfield career:

There is a feeling of unfinished business with Rafa and Liverpool, I’ve always said that.

Rafa would love to be the Liverpool manager at some point. Maybe in a time of crisis, proper crisis, not what’s happening now.

Maybe in a time where there’s a need for a strong personality to steady a ship. But right now in the way that the owners are behaving and Klopp and everything, that situation doesn’t exist.

How can we think that Klopp has reached the end of an era? Look at the bigger picture, how can anyone suggest that?

It’s laughable. It’s stupid and absurd to be talking about a future without Klopp.

Benitez was a great manager for Liverpool who was loved by much of the fanbase, but his time has been and gone.

For starters, the hope is that Jurgen Klopp is still Reds boss for many years to come, but even if he isn’t, a younger, fresher replacement would be required.

Now 60, Benitez’s best days as a manager are arguably behind him and there will be more exciting post-Klopp options out there, such as RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann, for example.
