Garth Crooks lauds Mohamed Salah after dramatic Liverpool victory

Liverpool maintained their top-four charge on Sunday when a remarkable last gasp Alisson Becker header earned the Reds all three points against a stubborn West Brom side.

Having gone behind early on when Hal Robson-Kanu finished cooly to give the hosts the lead, Jurgen Klopp’s side had it all to do in order to keep their destiny in their own hands.

Joint top Premier League goalscorer Mohamed Salah drew Liverpool level with a quick-thinking strike from the edge of the box – the Egyptian’s 22nd league goal of the campaign.

That feat prompted high praise from BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks, who has previously criticised the star, hailing the 28-year-old for his recent displays.

Against West Brom on Sunday, they showed patience and class. Salah is a different player when he plays for the team and can be a delight to watch. However, I see a different player when I get the feeling he’s chasing the Golden Boot. His game becomes selfish in crucial parts of the pitch. Not so against United or West Brom. When he is in this mood, he is a different class.

Goals from Salah and Alisson mean two wins from their final two fixtures with Burnley and Crystal Palace will almost certainly ensure Champions League football next season.

Despite the struggles elsewhere within Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, Salah has remained a consistently high performer and has perhaps been overlooked when it comes to praise before now.

With 30 goals in all competitions, the flying winger has often been the man to save the day for the Reds.

Capped 69 times by Egypt, the man crowned King of the nation by Kopites has become a world superstar since an ill-fated spell with Chelsea early in his career.
