Celtic prepared to battle it out for Liverpool centre-back this summer, with Reds looking for permanent deal

Last season proved challenging for the Reds following a number of high-profile injuries.

Throughout the campaign, the club lost all three of their senior centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip.

The three suffered long-term injuries that left them all out of the campaign, leaving Liverpool to dip into the winter market.

Two centre-backs were signed in the form of Ozan Kabak on loan and Ben Davies on a permanent deal.

Now, it appears as though Davies could be set to leave the club despite never playing a game.

According to the Daily Mail, via Anfield Watch, Celtic are back in the hunt to sign the English defender this summer…

The Scottish club had been set to sign Davies in January on a free transfer before the Reds hijacked the deal.

However, it now seems as though Celtic are still keen to bring the defender to the club on a season-long loan.

Unluckily for them, Liverpool reportedly wants to sell Davies for a profit rather than send him out on loan.

If Celtic are genuine about their interest in the 25-year-old then they may just bite the bullet on a permanent deal.

Although, they will face competition, with the Mail is also reporting that a number of English clubs are also interested.

One of which comes in the form of Championship side Bournemouth, who are looking to strengthen their defensive options.

One thing for sure is that Davies deserves game time, and with the recent signing of Ibrahima Konaté, it isn’t looking promising at Liverpool.
