Sergio Aguero ruled out of Man City’s clash with Liverpool

Sergio Aguero will miss Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Liverpool, the club have confirmed.

The 32-year-old has been a doubt for the game all week, having struggled to recover from a hamstring injury suffered last month. Aguero will now definitely miss the Sunday showdown, having scored seven times against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in the past.

The Argentine isn’t the only big-game player ruled out, with Virgil van Dijk and Thiago both key absentees for the Reds.

It is never nice to see any player missing through injury, but any Liverpool supporter would be lying if they said Aguero’s absence doesn’t boost Jurgen Klopp’s side’s chances of winning on Sunday.

The striker has been an unbelievable servant to City and is an undisputed big-game player, most notably scoring the dramatic title-winning goal back in 2011/12.

It means the fit-again Gabriel Jesus could lead the line this weekend, with the Brazilian a very different player to Aguero.

Should Jesus not be deemed fit enough to start, Raheem Sterling or Ferran Torres could play down the middle, highlighting the depth and quality at Pep Guardiola’s disposal.

Liverpool’s defenders will be most relieved not to see Aguero, however, considering the damage he has done in this fixture in the past.
