Alberto loan deal cut short

Alberto loan deal cut short

Luis Alberto will head back to Liverpool after his two-year loan deal with Malaga was cut short after one season at the La Liga club.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Brendan Rodgers is unlikely to change his mind on the Spaniard who failed to impress at Anfield since his arrival two years ago.

The attack-minded midfielder featured for the Reds during pre-season in 2013, but only started two games throughout the subsequent season, both in cup competition against lower league opposition.

He appeared 10 times from the bench, including cameo roles in the respective 5-0 and 4-0 routs of Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, but didn’t play for the senior team after January 2014.

He was loaned out to Malaga for 2014-15 and made a positive start there as he claimed the winner on his debut against Athletic Bilbao.

He was a prominent figure in the side for the next five games, but then lost his place in the team and ended the campaign with just six league starts to his name.

In March, Malaga manager Javi Garcia said: “He has a technical level that sets him apart from other players.

“He is talented, finishes well and scores goals. It is true that he is playing less than he might like because others are playing well, but he has a promising future.

“I have no doubt that he is a very good player but he still needs to consolidate himself.”

But Garca has opted to end Alberto’s loan deal, and the player is likely to be loaned out again by Liverpool unless a permanent bid comes in.
