Chelsea preparing bid for Sterling

Chelsea preparing bid for Sterling

Chelsea are set to join Manchester City in the bidding for Raheem Sterling, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

City have reportedly had their £35m (plus £5m in add-ons) bid rejected by the Reds, but it seems José Mourinho is now ready to make his move.

Tuttomercatoweb believe that the Blues will offer £40m for Sterling, which is still £10m short of the Reds’ asking price.

The 20-year-old is looking for a way out of Anfield, and now that Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Brazilian Roberto Firmino, they may be in more of a position to part ways with Sterling.

Hoffenheim midfielder Firmino is currently with Brazil at the Copa America in Chile and, according to many reliable UK-based journalists, is expected to compete his £29m move to Merseyside when he is granted a work permit.

Firmino’s arrival is thought to be a clear backing of Brendan Rodgers by FSG, but if Sterling departs as expected, then Liverpool may press on with moves for attackers Carlos Bacca and Salomon Rondon, both of whom have been linked since it was reported they were reluctant to match Christian Benteke’s release clause.
