Curtis Jones aims pointed dig at some Liverpool fans in social media post

Curtis Jones has aimed a dig at some Liverpool supporters on Twitter, hinting that he has been receiving abuse of late.

The 19-year-old could do no wrong a few weeks ago, as he found a rich vein of form and looked a superb option in the Reds’ midfield.

Jones has performed poorly in the last two outings, however, struggling to impact both games against West Brom and Newcastle United.

He was substituted in the latter on Wednesday night, cutting a frustrated figure as he walked off the pitch.

Taking to Twitter on New Year’s Eve, Jones wished the “REAL fans” a Happy New Year, in what was surely a dig at those who have been sending him negative messages:

The manner in which Jones’ reputation has changed in the eyes of some in the space of two matches sums up modern football.

So many fans are too knee-jerk in their opinions, going overboard either way about a player judged on such a small sample size.

In truth, there was probably an overreaction about how ready Jones was to be a star man in this Liverpool team, but equally, two below-par showings doesn’t suddenly make you a weak option.

At 19, the midfielder is still incredibly young, so it is no shock that bad performances will arrive now and then. He is a huge talent and an important squad member.
