Evra aims bizarre dig at Liverpool following victory over Leicester

Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra has had a bizarre dig at Liverpool, suggesting they are not yet a great team.

The reigning Premier League champions dispatched of a dangerous Leicester City side on Sunday night, winning 3-0 at Anfield.

The Reds did it without numerous key men, in what was a statement victory that suggested they remain the title favourites this season.

It has been a memorable period in Liverpool’s history, with Champions League and Premier League glory secured in back-to-back years.

Speaking on Sky Sports [via the Daily Mail] after the Leicester match, however, Evra says he won’t be calling them a great team until they win three league titles in a row:

We need to calm down, it’s only 9 games. I will call them a great team when they win three league titles in a row.

If they don’t win this year, I won’t call them an amazing team – it’s all about consistency and they win the league year after year – that’s when we call them the great Liverpool team.

Many teams before that have done that and I will call them the best Liverpool team when they win three leagues in a row.

It is a strange opinion from Evra, who comes across as nothing more than a bitter United fan who can’t handle Liverpool’s current success.

His theory would suggest that neither Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ or Chelsea’s first formidable team under Jose Mourinho are not great sides, either, because they didn’t win three titles in succession.

This is an undeniably special Liverpool outfit, and with each passing week, the more they look the best in the club’s history.

Their club-record 64 home league games unbeaten is testament to that, as the Klopp era shows no sign of slowing down.
