Joe Gomez has undergone successful knee surgery, Liverpool confirmed on Thursday.
The 23-year-old picked up an injury on England duty on Wednesday, after going to ground with nobody around him.
Gomez’s injury was immediately reported as serious, and while that remains the case, there is a potential silver lining for the player, Jurgen Klopp and Reds supporters.
It is hoped that the centre-back could still play again this season, rather than being ruled out for the entire campaign.
According to the Independent‘s Melissa Reddy, it is a tendon injury rather than a ligament issue.

Although this is still a huge blow for Gomez and Liverpool, the fact that he hasn’t done his ACL for a second time has to be considered a positive.
The England international does look likely to miss several months of action, but it could have been worse, especially with Virgil van Dijk widely expected to be out until next summer.
Klopp now has a huge task rejigging his defence, with much onus on Joel Matip and Fabinho staying fit.
If the pair can stay injury-free until January that would be a major positive, allowing Liverpool to sign someone in the next transfer window.
