Hertha Berlin want to sign Marko Grujic this summer

Michael Preetz, Hertha Berlin’s sporting director, has confirmed that his club want to keep Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic beyond the end of this season.

The Serbian star is currently on loan with the German side and despite suffering with injuries, he’s put in some impressive performances.

Grujic was the first signing made by Liverpool during the Jurgen Klopp era when the Reds paid £5m to sign him from Red Star Belgrade but he’s not quite been able to force himself into the manager’s plans.

The 22-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff City, whom he helped get promoted to the Premier League.

There were suggestions that the midfielder could be part of Klopp’s plans for this season, but he was allowed to join Hertha on loan, and the German side want to keep him.

Speaking to Kicker (via Bulinews), Preetz said:

First and foremost, we’re happy that we have Marko. I’d always prefer that a player helps me out for a year than not at all. We’ll certainly talk to Liverpool about the next season. All the guys can help us make a difference in a season when something extraordinary is possible. That is our goal, and it would be wonderful to successfully take the next step together
