Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will be “guaranteed his statue” at Anfield one day, according to Roy Hodgson.
The 30-year-old has recovered from a tough start on Merseyside to become a legendary skipper, leading the Reds to both Champions League and Premier League glory in the last 18 months.
Henderson is nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award on Sunday, which is another milestone moment in his career.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash with his Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime, with quotes provided by This Is Anfield, Hodgson lauded his former England player:
He’s an exceptional player, one who works exceptionally hard at his game and one who has got consistently better.
In 2012, when he’d just moved to Liverpool, we took him with us for his first England trip in the Euros to Poland and Ukraine. He was a very different player to the one he is today.
He’s worked so hard on his game to become the lead figure at that club. He works hard on his game technically and tactically as well. I’d certainly support his candidacy for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
I tend always to vote for football people because that’s my world and I know the people in football, so I’m pleased he’s nominated and I wish him all the best for that.
Certainly a lot in his life will be of a very high standard at the moment in terms of his satisfaction because to lead Liverpool to their first trophy after so many years and to do it in such spectacular fashion, that’s already guaranteed his statue outside Anfield one day.

It has been a remarkable journey for Henderson, who has come such a long way after those testing early years.
He has matured into a top class footballer who is arguably every bit the captain Steven Gerrard was, albeit not close to the calibre of player.
A wonderful role model who drives this Liverpool team forward, Henderson is a true Anfield legend and Hodgson is right in his assessment.
The midfielder will be a key figure at Selhurst Park, as the Reds look to go six points clear at the top of the Premier League.
