Jurgen Klopp rules Rhian Brewster out until next season

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that young striker Rhian Brewster recently had a minor operation and as such, he won’t feature for Liverpool this season.

Brewster has yet to play competitively for the Reds but he was expected to be part of the first-team plans this season, but his recovery from a serious injury hasn’t quite gone to plan.

Brewster was injured whilst playing for Liverpool U23s against Manchester City U23s 12 months ago and he’s not featured since.

The teenager had an initial surgery to repair damaged ligaments in his ankle but two months later, it was revealed that he needed a second operation as he’s also damaged his knee.

Brewster was expected to be back to full fitness around this time but Klopp, speaking ahead of Liverpool’s home game against Crystal Palace, said that he won’t expect to have the youngster available until pre-season training starts in the summer.

When asked how Brewster’s recovery was going, Klopp said:

[He’s] not as far as he wants to be. I saw him in the last hour, he was outside training and his running. He looks much better since he had another little surgery. He is in a good way. It will take time but he has the time. We don’t have to think about him before the pre-season, but he is in a really good way and in a good mood. He is really integrated with the team but so far hasn’t been able to show that on the pitch. Our opinion about him will not change. We have to wait a little bit longer and sometimes that’s how things are.

Brewster signed a long-term contract with Liverpool last summer and all being well, he’ll be part of the squad when they meet up for pre-season training.
