Liverpool made Insigne enquiry in January

Liverpool made an enquiry in January about the possibility of signing Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne in the summer, according to a report on the Liverpool Echo.

Football communications consultant Ian McGarry revealed that the Reds registered their interest in Insigne last month.

There have been recent claims that Liverpool actually submitted a bid for the Italian but McGarry understands that no bid was made.

He said:

I’ve spoken to some people that I know at Liverpool who said there was no bid.

It was simply an enquiry as to whether he might be available in the summer as clubs do once the January window closes, they start looking at a strategy for the summer.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp seems to already be looking ahead to the transfer window in the summer, with an eye to boosting his attacking options.

Insigne is one of Europe’s best forwards and he has netted eight times in the Italian Serie A this season.

With Napoli crashing out of the UEFA Champions League in the group stages and looking unlikely to contend for the league title, Insigne may be tempted to take on a new challenge in his career.
