Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is set to be sidelined for Croatia’s World Cup qualifier against Finland this week, the Mirror reports.
The experienced centre-back has been struggling with his fitness already this season, and has admitted that he is currently using painkillers to ensure that he is available for Liverpool’s league games.
I have problems with my whole body for the last two weeks, my back and now I have hurt my Achilles tendon.
I am taking pills so I can play five before every game. I wanted to play, the coach put me in the team, but it is not good.

Lovren was called up to his native Croatian squad ahead of what promises to be an important week in their pursuit of World Cup qualification, but it looks as though he will not be available for Ante Cacic’s side against Finland.
Liverpool’s defensive weaknesses have been highlighted by many this season, and Lovren has been one who has come under criticism. He has been the regular partner next to Joel Matip at the back, playing through clear pain.
Croatia will hope to have Lovren in contention for their game against Ukraine on Monday, but will know that the former Southampton man is a big doubt for the first game against Finland.
