Manchester United are closing in on a deal to pip Liverpool to the signing of defender Adrian Corral, according to a report from Spain.
Liverpool have shown an interest in the 16-year-old Villarreal star and have had scouts watching him for the past few months, but it looks like he is on his way to Old Trafford.
Corral has reportedly told Villarreal that he will not be putting pen to paper on a professional contract as he intends to join United.
Liverpool’s policy of signing the best young players in Europe will continue and they’ll have scouts all over the world hoping to identify young talent.
Another 16-year-old defender, Ki-Jana Hoever, recently made the switch from Ajax to the Reds and he was handed his first-team debut on Monday night as he came on as a substitute early on during the 2-1 FA Cup third round defeat to Wolves.
Liverpool beat United to Hoever’s signing, but it looks like the roles have been reversed in terms of Corral.
