Mo Salah won’t face retrospective action over challenge on Danilo Pereira

Liverpool have been given a welcome boost with the news that forward Mohamed Salah will not face retrospective action over his dangerous tackle on Porto’s Danilo Pereira during Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Anfield.

Salah went over the ball and caught the Porto captain on the shin but referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz chose not to give a foul against Salah or to even consult VAR.

Therefore, as per Article 9 of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations, the Egyptian will not face and retrospective punishment as the match official spotted the incident during the game and decided not to act.

Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas drew attention to the challenge by posting an image of it on social media and the Portuguese side were clearly unhappy that no action was taken against the Liverpool star.

Salah will now be free to play in the second-leg clash in Porto next week, where Liverpool will look to book a place in the semi-final.
