OTD: Liverpool survived late drama to edge out QPR in EPL classic

On this day (October 19) in 2014, Liverpool edged past QPR in a thriller at Loftus Road.

The Reds broke a club record when scoring in an eighteenth consecutive top-flight away game before an enthralling finish in London.

Brendan Rodgers’ side had been ahead at the now Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium when Richard Dunne scored a 10th Premier League own goal.

But, in the final moments, Eduardo Vargas equalised for the hosts before Philippe Coutinho fired the Reds back into the lead.

Legendary captain Steven Gerrard repaid the earlier favour by converting into his own net before future Merseyside man Steven Caulker gave Liverpool all three points in the 95th minute with yet another own goal in a breathtaking match.

Rodgers’ men ultimately finished sixth in the 2014/15 Premier League season having been runners up a year earlier under the Northern Irishman.

Another in a long line of thrillers involving the Anfield club, albeit often for the wrong reasons.

Thankfully the days of throwing away leads seem to be behind the Reds for the most part and nervy finishes are hopefully a thing of the past.

Jurgen Klopp will hope for a smoother ride when his side face Atletico Madrid and Manchester United this week.
