Liverpool have announced, via the club’s official website, that defender Rhys Williams has signed his first professional contract at Anfield.
The 18-year-old originally joined Liverpool as an U10 player and has progressed through the club’s academy system at Kirkby.
He’s now a regular for the U18’s and U19’s, and he recently earned his first start at U23 level when he lined up at the back against Villarreal.
The Preston-born defender only turned 18 at the beginning of February and as such, he was eligible for his first professional deal.
Talks between the club and the player obviously went well as the youngster has put pen-to-paper on a contract that officially makes him a professional footballer for Liverpool.
Williams’ next aim will be to secure a regular place in the U23 side and from there, make a push for inclusion in Jurgen Klopp’s squad as a first-team player
