Robertson, Wijnaldum and Mane all travel for Midtjylland clash

Andy Robertson, Gini Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane have all travelled for Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Midtjylland, the Liverpool Echo‘s Paul Gorst has confirmed on Twitter.

The Reds visit the Danish outfit for their final Group D game on Wednesday evening, in what is essentially a dead rubber.

Jurgen Klopp’s have already qualified for the last-16, while their opponents are out of the competition.

A weakened Liverpool team is, therefore, expected, but Robertson, Wijnaldum and Mane are all part of the travelling pack.

While it is nice to show Midtjylland some respect, it feels needless to take the key Liverpool trio on the plane to Denmark.

All three have played a huge amount of football already this season and this would be the perfect time to give them a night off, ahead of thee quickfire Premier League fixtures against Fulham, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

It may that they don’t feature, of course – would Liverpool even have enough substitutes without them? – but even having them as part of the squad feels like a risk.

Should any of them play, and subsequently get injured, it could have a major knock-on effect for the rest of the season.

The hope is that they are wrapped in cotton wool, and are simply there to act as inspiration for young players who may be given a chance to impress.
