Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has highlighted the importance of the club’s in-form attacker Roberto Firmino.
The Brazilian international has been playing tremendously well for the Reds throughout the course of the season and his displays are not going unnoticed by his teammates.
Alexander-Arnold, as quoted by the Mirror, explained just why Firmino is such a crucial cog in Jurgen Klopp’s setup.
He’s a very special player. I think he’s definitely under-rated in terms of the recognition that he gets. I think he links the whole team together. He links the front three together, especially. He’s priceless to us. He scores goals, he creates chances and he gets assists. There’s not much more you want from a No.9.
Firmino has been playing a unique role for Liverpool. Despite starting as a lone striker in a 4-3-3, he often drops deep to collect the ball and shift it between Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. It is this relationship with his teammates that has aided the Reds’ in their deadly form in front of goal in the campaign so far.
He wants to win, he’s a born winner. I think that’s very important if you want to make it in this game. You’ve got to have that drive to win and he’s got that.
He always plays a part. If you watch him closely, his drive and enthusiasm to get back and defend as a No 9 are incredible.
Most of the time you see him past the halfway line, tracking back and making tackles. Sometimes he overdoes it, but in a good way. I suppose he doesn’t have to do it, but he’s willing to do it for the team.
Alexander-Arnold, like the Liverpool faithful, have clearly been impressed by Firmino’s efforts and will be desperate for the ex-Hoffenheim man to continue displaying his quality in the final stretch of the season.
You don’t really see that from an all-round No 9. It just shows his hunger to win. I think that’s a big part of it. We’ve got a really good attack and everyone is in fine form. Hopefully there’s no stopping the goals.
