Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele has revealed just how close he came to joining Liverpool when he left Rennes.
Speaking to Onze Mondial, Dembele has confirmed that he had offers from Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.
I spoke to three clubs (when leaving Rennes). Dortmund, Liverpool and Barcelona. I had an appointment with FC Barcelona. I told them, ‘For next season, it will not be possible.
After impressing in France with Rennes, Dembele had caught the attention of several clubs in Europe.
Liverpool had registered their interest with the Reds in the market for a young attacker.
However, it would be Dortmund that the player would go on to join, completing a £13 million move to the Bundesliga.
Dembele’s profile would continue to rise during his brief stint in Germany. At Dortmund, the Frenchman went on to impress further before completing a big-money move to Barcelona.
In the summer of 2017, Dembele joined the Catalan side in a deal worth up to £135 million.
The former Dortmund winger has been unable to kick on in his Barcelona career with injuries holding him back in his first season in La Liga.
