A Republic of Ireland XI will face Celtic in a testimonial match for Hoops captain Scott Brown, meaning talks about Liverpool facing the Scottish champions in the match did not result in a game being organised.
The Scott Brown Testimonial Committee confirmed the rumours earlier today via Celtic’s website, with Martin O’Neill set to return to Celtic Park with an Ireland team.
The match will be played on the 20th May, a day after the Scottish Cup final will be held at Hampden Park.

Brown, who has been a Celt for eleven years now, has been a mainstay in the team during that time.
The 32-year-old was named captain by Tony Mowbray in 2010 and has worn the armband ever since.
There had been talks between Celtic and Liverpool regarding the Reds facing the Hoops in the game, but it looks like they proved unsuccessful.
There is still a chance that the two teams could play in a pre-season game but it won’t be Brown’s testimonial.
