As a result of Liverpool’s ongoing injury woes at centre-back, the Echo claim that Conor Masterson may be named on the bench for the Reds’ Champions League clash with Manchester City tomorrow.
The Reds face perhaps their biggest game of the season against Pep Guardiola’s side at Anfield on Wednesday evening as they gear up for the Champions League quarter-final first leg.
However, Jurgen Klopp faces plenty of selection dilemmas as the injuries pile up. Ragnar Klavan has been ruled out for the match, whilst Joel Matip is also set to be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Joe Gomez is nursing an ankle injury, too.

This leaves only Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren as the club’s available, senior centre-backs. Due to this, the Liverpool Echo have reported that Masterson may be included in the 18-man squad for what promises to be a historic night at Anfield.
Masterson has been impressive in the club’s youth ranks for some time now and it seems he may be allowed a taste of European football, even as an unused substitute if Klopp can help it.
The 19-year-old participated in training with the senior squad at Melwood today as Liverpool continued their preparations for City’s visit to Merseyside.
