Liverpool target Fernandes seeks Sporting exit
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a swoop for Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes in recent times and it seems they could have a perfect opportunity to recruit the player this summer.
The playmaker is a prized asset for Sporting but amid a hugely concerning period for the club, it seems a move away for Fernandes is nothing more than an inevitability at this stage.
According to claims from Portuguese news outlet O Jogo, Fernandes has submitted his resignation from Sporting, requesting that his contract is rescinded.
This comes following increased tension at the Liga NOS giants, who have seen their supporters turn against several members of the club’s first-team.
Fernandes, along with William Carvalho and Gelson Martins, are claimed to have requested the termination of their deals at Sporting, putting a number of clubs on red alert.
Originally regarded as one of Sporting’s most valuable players, Fernandes could walk away from the club on a free transfer, as the turmoil at Estádio José Alvalade continues.
Liverpool are still on the lookout for Philippe Coutinho’s replacement after their discussions to sign Nabil Fekir broke down, and Fernandes may be a target on the Reds’ shortlist following the news coming out of Portugal.
