Liverpool miss out on Meyer deal due to wage demands

Liverpool and Arsenal have turned the chance to sign long-term target Max Meyer on a free transfer this summer due to the player’s high wage demands.

According to Get German Football News, the player is now in talks to sign for Marseille after falling out of favour at Schalke.

Meyer was widely expected to leave the Bundesliga after a reported fall-out with manager Domenico Tedesco.

The report claims that there was also interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid in Spain and fellow Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, but the player now looks set for a move to France.

Meyer has long been linked with a move to Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp said to be an admirer of the player.

Speculation continued when it became known that he would be available on a free transfer, but Liverpool appeared to have now ended their interest in a deal.

The German international enjoyed a strong season at Schalke, with Tedesco bringing the best out of the player in a deeper midfield position, but relationships at the club have soured.
