Van Dijk delighted with ‘important’ win at Palace
Virgil van Dijk hailed Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace on Monday night as “very important”.
The Dutchman turned in yet another imperious display in the heart of the defence for Liverpool and saw his efforts rewarded, with Sky Sports awarding him the Man of the Match accolade.
Van Dijk contributed to what was a cultured performance from Liverpool as goals from James Milner and Sadio Mane secured a 2-0 victory at Selhurst Park.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website after the win in South London, Van Dijk was quick to stress the importance of coming away from the game with all three points.
It was very important to win here. We know how difficult it is to come here, so to win and keep a clean sheet as well, I’m a very happy man. I think we had very good moments but also moments that need to be better, especially in ball possession, but overall we need to be very happy that we won here.
Van Dijk has established himself as an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans for this Liverpool side and has started the season in fine fashion.
The Reds are currently the only side in the Premier League to have kept two clean sheets from as many games, further indicating just how influential Van Dijk has been in recent times.
It was going to be very tough, we knew before it was going to be a big fight, but we prepared very well, everyone was up for it and you could see that as well.
