Awoniyi dreaming of Liverpool breakthrough amid Schalke interest

Liverpool youngster Taiwo Awoniyi has reiterated his desire to make the grade at Anfield.

Speaking to Sport/Foot, as cited on Sport Witness, Awoniyi discussed his ambitions for the future just days after reports of a transfer approach from Bundesliga side Schalke.

I need to continue to fight for my future. That’s what keeps me going. If I work enough, I’ll be able to find a place where I can stay, settle down and I hope it will be in England.

The German outfit are reportedly keen to sign the young striker following an impressive run of form since the January window.

Awoniyi has caught the eye while on loan at Belgian side Mouscron and his performances are not going unnoticed, with an increasing amount of Bundesliga teams looking towards the Premier League for young talent.

The Nigerian youth international also spoke with an air of maturity, accepting that he may never play for the Reds given the level of competition that currently stands in his way.

To be honest, I’ll live if I don’t play for Liverpool. I chose them because it’s my dream to play in England and at Liverpool, but if it doesn’t happen, I’ll always be grateful to them for finding me and my talent.

Awoniyi certainly has a bright future, but it remains to be seen whether or not he’ll be realising his potential at Anfield or further afield.
