Barcelona directors in Amsterdam to close out deal for Reds target de Ligt

Liverpool target Matthijs de Ligt looks set to be on the move this summer, however, it appears as if the defender may well be heading to Spain over England.

Ajax’s CEO Edwin van der Sar claimed that the defender will be moving to either country this summer, with the Reds hopeful of landing the teenager ahead of the new season.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, relayed in an article by calciomercato.com, Barcelona officials have flown to Amsterdam in a bid to speed up a potential deal for the teenager.

de Ligt has been one of the standout performers in Europe this season and is a target for Jurgen Klopp, who sees the youngster as a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk.

The 19-year-old’s Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona in the summer, and the Spanish giants are desperate to use their links with Ajax to secure the services of de Ligt.

When asked if he had played his last game at the Johan Cruyff Arena this weekend, de Ligt said:

My last [game at] Joahn Cruyff Arena? I don’t know yet. There are negotiations, but there is still no agreement with whom? The newspapers write. Choose one of you.

One thing looks certain, the Dutch international will be leaving Ajax this summer, and it appears as if Barcelona are now clear favourites for the central defender’s services.
